Myopia (aka nearsightedness) is a controllable condition/disease of the eye in which the eye elongates and causes vision to be blurry in the distance and more clear with near tasks.
We find it important to “control” or manage myopia to prevent any and hopefully, all of the following conditions…
1. Myopic macular degeneration
2. Retinal detachment
3. Cataracts (posterior subcapsular/nuclear)
4. Open angle glaucoma
The earlier the intervention, the better the cumulative outcome in preserving the health of the retina
With myopia management we can slow down the development of myopia AND slow down the risk of those above complications
After extensive research and training into myopia and myopia management, I have curated a program for Crystal View Optometry’s patients. This program consists of determining the level of myopia and/or risk analysis, if no myopia has developed, and beginning an on-going treatment (via specialty soft contact lenses or specialty eye drops) to prevent the dramatic increase or incidence of myopia in our patients.
